(1) Research (in small groups): Divide the class into small groups of 3-5. Each group selects one country which they’d like to focus on for researching “compliments” in the particular culture and do some research to find out how we Taiwanese people are different from other countries or cultures, including conventional languages or/and non verbal communication patterns (such as gesture or physical distance)
(2) Follow-up activity on #1: Each group shares their findings orally in class.
(3) Role play: Two groups work together to act as people from two different cultures to engage in intercultural communication on providing and responding to compliments on the particular person or event. The role play is suggested to be done in 3-5 minutes.
